Late Pijush Kanti Mukherjee was a student of Alipurduar High School .In 1932 he qualified Matriclution examination in first devision . Alipurduar High School was under Calcutta University in those days. Since his school days he was drawn in politics and took part in various processions and political activities. Moreover for boycotting foreign clothes he was even assaulted by the traders. While studying at Rangpur college during 1932-36 he got himself involved in a revolutionary movement-Yugantar. After passing Matriculation examination he took Science stream at kar Micheal college Rangpur . After passing I.Sc Examination he began studying B.Sc. Thereafter, he passed Moktar exam and started practicing law along with his father.

Pijush Kanti Mukherjee was requested to take responsibility of the congress secretary by the then Khagendranath Das gupta,elected member from Jaldapara constituency in the year1937. Later on he continued his responsibility as the president of the party till 1943. He established a sangathanic unit and influenced Quit India movement in 1942. During Bangiya Pradeshik Congress Sammelan in 1939,he came in touch with congress President Subhas Ch Bosh.

Several times he was nominated candidate of Alipurduar Assembly center in the following years of 1952,1957,1962,1967,1969, and 1971. In 1971 he was elected as Upadhaksha in Legistative Assembly. After separation of Bengal he took part in rehabilation of the refugees.

Being the pioneer of Women education, he was actively involved in the development of High Schools . His elder brother, Nilkanta Mukherjee, tried his best to establish Alipurduar college in 1957 and influenced Dr Bidhan Ch Roy, Sardar Vallav vi Patel and Mehar Chand Khanna for the college to avil facilities of the then Govt. sponsor scheme.

Mr Mukherjee’s proposal to the central Govt. for establishing a new station between Damanpur and Alipurduar cort instead of Coochbehar was accepted and as an out come of his proposal, trains to and from Assam were started through this new route. His endeavour for brodgauge line througe Alipurduar is also note worthy. Moreover, while remaning as an MLA he tried his best to construct a dam over Kaljani river.

From his Early life he was active in Library movement and in 1938 he was elected Secretary of Edward library. He got actively involved in tea garden labours movement and he was called the father of West Bengal Tea Labour Union. He was felicitated with freedom movement award from the President of India and received ‘Tamra Patra’ in 1972.

Pijush Kanti Mukherjee passed away at his own residence at Babupara,Alipurduar in 1998. His death caused an irreparable void in our socicty.

The College was estabilished in the year 2015 and it was formally inaugurated in the same year by Dr Partha Chatterjee,Honorable Education Minister,Govt of West Bengal , Binoy Krishna Barman honorable Forest Minister and Dr Somnath Ghosh, Honorable V.C. North Bengal University. The College is originally located at a tribal area. Presently, the College is functioning at B.K High School with approximately 1000 student.The people of Sonapur have contributed immensely for the construction of the College and Mr Debaprasad Roy’s role requires a special mention. This co-educational degree College is affiliated to the university of North Bengal. The institution is located at Alipurduar block I, which is very backward socially and economically. Thus, it is imperative to set up a higher education instution in the locality. Historically the place by and large belongs to backward community.Hence the College serves the interests the people of all communities,Minorites, poor students and so on.

The college is underconstruction in a villege called Dakshin Chokowakheti under Chokowakheti G.P in the Jurisdiction of Alipurduar Block I , West Bengal. The College has approximately 5.21 acros of land and geographically located in rural area adjacent to CHILAPATA forest. The College is well connected with coochbehar dist, Alipurduar dist and other important places. It is situated 40 K.M away from Jaigaon College ,20 K.M away from Falakata College,20 K.M away from Alipurduar College and 25K.M away from B.T Evening College.
